Guanyu Zhou, the Chinese driver racing with Sauber (currently Alfa Romeo), is looking forward to upcoming contract negotiations with ease.
Scoring points twice in the 2023 season, Zhou is keen on a longer deal, saying, “The team and I are gradually starting to discuss the issue of the contract. Now is the right time.”
He expressed his satisfaction with the team and lack of stress compared to last year. With Sauber’s collaboration with Audi in the works, Zhou remains enthusiastic about his role.
“But this takes time. I am happy with the team, happy to interact with the people I work with, and will be happy to continue this work,” he confirmed.
Gasly Opens Up About ‘Turbulent Times’ at Alpine
Pierre Gasly, the French Formula 1 driver, has shared his struggles and adjustments to chaos-hit team Alpine. This year he shifted from Red Bull to join fellow Frenchman Esteban Ocon at Renault’s Alpine, stepping into the significant void left by Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso.
Expressing his ongoing learning curve, Gasly remarked, “I still feel like I’m in a kind of learning process. Not always, but on certain topics or in communication. I wish I could say we’re already at 100 percent, but that kind of thing takes time. The cars have become so complex.”
Acknowledging communication issues and the imperfect 2023 car, Gasly, aged 27, told Auto Motor und Sport, “Sometimes we still talk past each other about what I want from the car and what they are able to give me.”
Further discussing the evolution of the car and his hopes for the future, Gasly added, “I hope the car will suit me better by the end of the year.”
Regarding recent upheavals in Alpine’s management, he admitted to a “turbulent time” at Enstone and expressed gratitude towards the departing team members.
