Following the conclusion of the Chinese Grand Prix, the unfolding drama extended beyond the chequered flag as several drivers found themselves summoned to face the stewards in Shanghai.
Among those required to appear before the stewards were Formula 1 drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg. They were called in on allegations of breaching Article 55.8 of the sporting regulations, which pertains to overtaking under a safety car protocol.
Ricciardo’s race came to an untimely end after sustaining a collision during the first safety car restart, initiated by Lance Stroll. The incident left the Red Bull Racing driver visibly irate, especially upon discovering Stroll’s attempt to shift blame onto him.
Furthermore, Hulkenberg’s point-scoring finish is now under scrutiny following his crossing the line in 10th place. This occurrence marked Hulkenberg’s third top-ten finish in the initial five rounds of the season, showcasing his consistent performance for Haas.
Additionally, Pierre Gasly and the Alpine team were also summoned regarding their adherence to Article 3.2 and/or 34.14.d. Gasly’s pit stop maneuver saw him departing his box before the right rear tire was properly secured, resulting in a mechanic falling over.
Fortunately, reports suggest that the mechanic escaped unscathed from the incident. Gasly ultimately finished 13th, matching his best result amid a challenging start to the 2024 campaign.
