Audi has refuted suggestions that it’s reconsidering its plans to debut in Formula 1 in 2026.
The official stance of the German car manufacturer, owned by Volkswagen, is to acquire the Sauber team based in Switzerland. This team is currently racing as Alfa Romeo in F1. The acquisition would see Audi introduce their engines in compliance with the forthcoming sporting regulations.
However, Radio Le Mans, a renowned English-speaking radio broadcaster for the esteemed 24-hour race, has quoted insiders suggesting a potential Audi retreat from the Sauber agreement.
Such a decision, the report claims, could be finalised following an imminent Audi board gathering.
Addressing this, an Audi representative conveyed to total-motorsport.com: “Audi’s F1 entry in 2026 is based on a decision of the Board of Audi AG in alignment with the Supervisory Board of Audi AG. As well as the Supervisory Board of Volkswagen Group.”
Further, the representative stressed that the progress towards Audi’s 2026 Formula 1 involvement, inclusive of the new engine development, “remains unchanged”.
