Sebastian Vettel names his two most challenging Formula 1 opponents.

Sebastian Vettel claims that his most difficult opponents in Formula 1 have been Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

Since joining the grid in the middle of the 2007 season, Hamilton and Alonso have been constants in Vettel’s career.

The three drivers are among the most successful in Formula One history, and Vettel has had title battles with both at various points in their careers.

When asked who his toughest race opponent had been in Formula 1, Vettel told Aston Martin’s official website: “Lewis [Hamilton], especially when I was at Ferrari.

“Lewis has always been right up there. Before that, it was probably Fernando [Alonso] when he was at Ferrari. “

Sebastian Vettel left Ferrari to race for Aston Martin in 2021 and 2022 before announcing his retirement from Formula 1 at the end of the 2022 season.

The team has praised Vettel for remaining a model professional throughout his time with Aston Martin, with points finishes being the main goal of race weekends rather than fighting for podium positions.

Considering being unable to fight at the front as he has done for the majority of his career, Vettel insists he has no regrets and has appreciated how much work goes on behind the scenes, even when teams are not performing well.

“No, not at all,” Sebastian Vettel said. “I don’t think it was a useless two years, even though the results and points we scored weren’t that useful or what we hoped for. I’ve loved working with the team and getting to know different people and different approaches.

“These last two years have been very challenging because I wasn’t familiar with running at the back of the field. It has been a new experience, tough at times, and I have learnt a lot.

Toto Wolff asserts there is nothing ‘minor’ about the budget cap breach.

“You only see what’s happening around you. If you’re at the front, you only see what’s at the front. When you’re in the back, you only see what’s in the back, but you’re always looking forward to it because you want to be there.

“But when you’re at the front, you don’t look at the back because it doesn’t impact you and you don’t appreciate just how much work the teams at the back are also putting in. “Just because you’re not scoring big results, doesn’t mean you’re not working as hard.”
