Sebastian Vettel, who currently drives for Aston Martin, confirmed he would retire at the end of the season. The German driver announced his retirement from F1 at the end of the season, capping off a career that included four world championships and 53 victories since 2007.
Vettel has a long history with the Race of Champions, having competed in the Nations Cup for Germany with Michael Schumacher in 2007.
Sebastian Vettel, who will retire from Formula One at the end of the 2022 season, will be joined by double world champion Mika Hakkinen at the event on January 28th and 29th, 2023 in Pite Havsbad, Sweden.
The event, which has taken place every year since 1988 with the exception of 2013, 2016, and 21, will return to the same location next January, just 60 miles from the Arctic Circle.
Vettel said: “I can’t think of a better place for my first race after I retire from Formula One than the Race of Champions,”
This will be my 11th appearance, and I keep coming back because it’s such a unique and enjoyable event.
“I didn’t have much experience racing on snow and ice, so it was a steep learning curve earlier this year in Sweden—and a very pleasant surprise to reach the individual final against Sébastien Loeb.”
“Now I can’t wait to come back and give ROC-style ice racing another try and hopefully help Team Germany win another Race of Champions Nations Cup title.”
