In an intriguing twist, former F1 race winner David Coulthard has hailed Lewis Hamilton’s remarkable resurgence against his teammate George Russell at Mercedes.
After enduring a winless season for the first time in his illustrious 16-year F1 career, the seven-time World Champion faced fierce competition from Russell, who clinched Mercedes’ sole victory at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix last year.
Furthermore, Russell outperformed Hamilton in the Drivers’ standings, leaving fans questioning the changing tides within the team.

However, Hamilton’s tenacity and skill have shone through in the new season, as he has secured more podium finishes for the iconic German manufacturer. Not only that, but he now leads the championship table.
Speaking on the Formula For Success podcast, Coulthard shared his admiration for Hamilton’s remarkable turnaround, underscoring his enduring prowess and determination.
“We gave warning of ‘be careful of getting ahead of yourself’ because Lewis, when he is on form, is a formidable teammate,” Coulthard revealed.
“We have definitely seen a turning of the tide, in terms of Lewis is looking pretty sharp, there’s this spring in his voice when he’s talking to the team.”
“I was super concerned [about Russell],” added former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan.
“However, George has absolutely surpassed everything I thought he could be and he is a brilliant potential future World Champion, if he is in the right position and the right car, he has got everything.
“Lewis has upped his game, however. He has found his mojo again. He drove a good tactical race [in Canada], giving the car the best chance.

“I think it is encouraging what we are seeing at Mercedes but they still have a bit to catch up with the Aston Martin which still looks very strong, and the Red Bull.
“But I don’t see the Red Bull suffering in the future. I think the championship is over, sad to say, but that’s what I think – I don’t see anyone touching Max [Verstappen].”
Lewis Hamilton has emerged as the victor in the races against his teammate, although their qualifying performances have remained evenly matched with a 4-4 tie.
Hamilton’s recent accomplishments include consecutive podium finishes in the last two races, showcasing his exceptional form and determination.
With his sights set on the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix, Hamilton is poised to extend his impressive streak and further solidify his position in Drivers’ championship.
