Four-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel has suggested a potential comeback to the racing circuit, hinting at discussions with various team leaders, including Toto Wolff.
Wolff, the head of Mercedes, is on the lookout to fill the impending vacancy created by Lewis Hamilton’s departure from the Silver Arrows to Ferrari at the onset of the upcoming season.
With this switch, Carlos Sainz of Prancing Horse finds himself without a seat for the 2025 season, prompting a scramble among contenders eager to partner with George Russell at Mercedes.
“I am speaking to Toto. I don’t know if that qualifies as Mercedes, but about other things,” Vettel disclosed. “I’m talking to a lot of people because I know them, but not very specific. I mean obviously it does cross my mind, I do think about it, but it’s not the main thought.”
He elaborated further on his considerations, saying, “I have three kids at home, it’s busy every day, so there’s a lot of other thoughts I have. There’s ideas that I have.
“Events that I’m planning going forwards, so I did speak to a lot of other team principals as well, and not only about racing. There’s thoughts, but nothing concrete at the minute.”
Vettel, who secured four world titles with Red Bull and had a stint with Aston Martin before exiting F1, is now 36 years old, making him one of the older drivers on the grid, trailing only Fernando Alonso, aged 42, and Lewis Hamilton, aged 39.
