George Russell is a British Formula One racing driver, born on February 15, 1998, in King’s Lynn, England. He currently competes for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team.
Russell began his motorsports career in karting, winning several championships before transitioning to open-wheel racing. He quickly made a name for himself in the junior ranks, winning the 2015 GP3 Series championship and finishing runner-up in the 2016 FIA Formula 2 Championship.
In 2018, Russell made his Formula One debut with the Williams Racing team and has been a part of the team since then. Despite driving for one of the slower teams on the grid, Russell has shown a strong pace and has impressed many in the paddock with his mature driving style.
Notably, a superb qualifying performance led to his lone podium finish in the 2021 season. The 24-year-old attracted a lot of attention at Williams after his outstanding performance in qualifying on Saturday, giving him the moniker “Mr Saturday.” Russell is happy to go by this moniker because he enjoys Saturday thrills.
The young British talent replaced Valterri Bottas at Mercedes ahead of the 2022 Formula One season and went on to beat seven-time world champion and teammate Lewis Hamilton in his debut season at Mercedes.
He capped off such an amazing feat by finishing fourth in the Drivers’ championship standings.
