Martin Brundle cautioned that if Adrian Newey were to leave Red Bull and join a rival team, it would pose a significant setback for anyone involved.

Brundle emphasized that Newey‘s departure would result in a “double whammy,” allowing the acquiring team to benefit from his intellectual prowess while preventing others from utilizing his talents.

Despite having a contract with Red Bull until the end of 2025, Newey’s future with the team has come under speculation. Red Bull reiterated their stance, affirming that they have no knowledge of Newey joining any other team.

As the chief technology officer at Red Bull, Newey is widely regarded as one of the most successful designers in the history of Formula 1.

Throughout his tenure at Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, Newey has contributed to the creation of cars that have secured a combined total of 25 Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles.

Rumors suggest that Newey may be on the verge of departing from Red Bull, attracting interest from various teams.

Ferrari has reportedly made multiple offers to entice him to join the Scuderia over the years, while Aston Martin is rumored to have approached him during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix weekend.

Reflecting on Newey’s track record of success across multiple teams and decades, former F1 driver and current Sky F1 analyst Brundle underscored the significance of having Newey on board.

Brundle noted that Newey’s presence not only brings his expertise to the team but also prevents him from influencing matters elsewhere on the grid.

Brundle expressed on X (formerly Twitter), “Teams with the funds and resource will have been courting Adrian Newey for a while.

“If and when he becomes available it’s a double whammy for any team, they’ll have access to his experience and genius, and it stops another team having him.”

Since moving from McLaren to Red Bull in 2006, Newey has contributed significantly to the Milton Keynes-based team’s success, accumulating a total of 13 Drivers’ and Constructors’ titles.

The latest car from Red Bull, the RB20, has demonstrated impressive performance, securing victory in four out of the first five races of the season with Max Verstappen behind the wheel. However, Verstappen missed out on a clean sweep after retiring from the Australian Grand Prix.
