Former Formula 1 driver and commentator Martin Brundle has proposed that teams adopting more vibrant liveries be given a weight advantage, sparked by the unveiling of the Aston Martin AMR24.
The 2024 Formula 1 season is shaping up with the latest car reveal, as Aston Martin revealed their AMR24 early on Monday, February 12.
The car continues to feature the iconic British Racing Green, marking Aston Martin’s effort to regain their competitive edge after falling short of consistent podium finishes in the 2023 season.

Despite the AMR24 adding a splash of color to the grid, the practice of utilizing weight-saving exposed carbon is evident, reflecting a wider trend in modern F1 where teams aim to reduce the weight of their cars through any means possible, including minimalist paint schemes.
In a social media post by Brundle, he stated “The Aston looking classy. Teams should be rewarded with a weight allowance for more complete liveries which will stand out on track for spectators and viewers.
“The field should look dynamic, it’s F1. Some of them look glum and half-finished.”
In 2023, Aston Martin secured eight podiums, all thanks to Fernando Alonso. For the 2024 F1 season, team leader Mike Krack aims to achieve their first Grand Prix win, going a step beyond their previous success.
“We are proud to debut the AMR24,” said Krack at the AMR24 launch.
“It is the result of a huge effort by the whole team at our new AMR Technology Campus and it will allow the team to take another step forward in 2024.
“Since the last race in 2023, everyone has been hyper-focused on improvements in every area, concentrating our efforts on what really makes a difference, what really matters to be better.
“Almost every area of the car has been refined and improved, building on our strengths, and taking on board the lessons of the previous campaign.
“2023 was our best season to date and our goal this season is to score regular points, podiums, and fight for our first win in green.”
For the 2024 F1 season, two-time World Champion Alonso and Lance Stroll will continue as Aston Martin’s driving duo, marking their second year together.
With teams like Alpine, Stake, Haas, and McLaren opting for predominantly black designs for the 2024 season, Brundle has voiced that teams should be incentivized to embrace full and vibrant liveries to prevent designs that appear “half-finished” in his view.
