Max Verstappen Embraces Fans Hostility at Circuit of the Americas
Max Verstappen, fresh off his triumph in the United States Grand Prix, has openly embraced the less-than-friendly reception from fans at the Circuit of the Americas.
The Dutch driver clinched his 50th Formula One race victory, engaging in a thrilling strategic battle with Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes in Austin.
Despite securing the Drivers’ title at the previous race in Qatar, Verstappen faced a chorus of boos during his parc fermé interview with former champion Jenson Button, upon stepping onto the podium, and while receiving his well-earned trophy.
Rumours circulating on social media have hinted at a portion of the booing possibly being aimed at Greg Abbott, the Governor of Texas.
However, the persistent booing directed at Max Verstappen as he made his way from his car to the podium indicated that the vitriol was primarily aimed at the Dutch driver.
Furthermore, another contributing factor to the reception Verstappen received at the Circuit of the Americas was the substantial presence of Mexican fans who turned out to support his teammate, Sergio Perez.
While their relationship has seen its share of strains over the past two seasons, they continue to draw passionate support from their respective fan bases.
“No, no. In the end, I’m the one who takes the silverware home, so all fine by me!” said the three-time world champion when interviewed by Viaplay NL.
Regarding expectations for a potentially more hostile reception at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Max Verstappen remained resolute and asserted: “Then it’s still me who’s bringing the silverware home.”
