Leading Indycar racer, Alex Palou’s path to Formula 1 faces a staggering $30 million obstacle.
According to The Indianapolis Star, McLaren, who had earlier committed to transitioning to the brand’s Indycar squad but later chose to stick with Chip Ganassi, is currently pursuing a lawsuit against Palou that’s speculated to be in the range of $20-30 million.
The head of McLaren, Zak Brown, remarked, “Palou received a significant payment for 2024 as well as millions of dollars for development in our Formula 1 test program.
“It now appears that our faith, commitment, investment and trust in Alex was misplaced.”
The 26-year-old racer from Spain, Palou, has also severed ties with his management agency – Monaco Increase Management – amidst this contention.
“Together, we had built a relationship that we thought went beyond any contractual obligation and culminated in winning the 2021 Indycar crown and tracing a path to F1 opportunities,” the firm declared in an official release.
An insider informed the Indy Star daily that, although the court records remain confidential, the ongoing litigations might demand damages amounting to an eye-popping $30m.
