British driver Lewis Hamilton has not yet signed a new contract with Mercedes to extend their highly successful partnership beyond the 2023 Formula 1 season.
Having joined the Silver Arrows in 2013, the partnership between the seven-time world champion and Mercedes is an epitome of an ideal pairing.
Hamilton has won 6 world titles with the Brackley-based team while Mercedes have won 8 Constructors’ titles since their partnership.
After a defeat to Dutch driver Max Verstappen in the 2021 championship, the 38-year-old has failed to secure a race win after Mercedes’ drop back under Formula One’s new regulations.
Both the driver and the team assert that a fresh agreement will be finalized, yet despite months of discussions and the anticipation of imminent confirmation, the formal agreement remains pending.
Nicolas Hamilton, brother to Lewis Hamilton, made a jest about teaming up with his brother at Mercedes for the 2024 F1 season.
“Hmm, Toto and Mercedes want me to be team-mate to big bro Lewis Hamilton for 2024…Should I pick up?” Nicolas quipped.
His reference to Lewis being a Mercedes driver for 2024 raises the question: is this a mere innocent remark or could it possibly hint at his older brother’s continuation with the Silver Arrows for at least one more season?
