Jos Verstappen has expressed concerns regarding the future of Red Bull in Formula 1 following the announcement of Adrian Newey’s departure from the team. Verstappen cautioned that the team could face significant challenges in the wake of Newey’s exit.
Red Bull confirmed on Wednesday that Adrian Newey will step down from his role as chief technical officer in the first quarter of 2025. While he transitions out of his duties with the Formula 1 team, Newey will concentrate on the RB17 hypercar project.
The departure of the highly-regarded engineer comes at a time when Red Bull is navigating through a turbulent period in the 2024 season. Internal conflicts have emerged within the organization, casting a shadow over its impressive performance on the track.
Reports suggest that tensions have arisen between different factions of the company, with allegations and disputes surfacing between the Austrian and Thai sides. Earlier this year, Jos Verstappen publicly criticized Christian Horner, the team principal, following accusations made by a female employee.
The discord within the team has fueled speculation about the future of Max Verstappen, who is on track to secure his fourth world championship title with Red Bull. Despite the uncertainties, Max Verstappen has affirmed his allegiance to his father and advisor, Helmut Marko.
Jos Verstappen has reiterated his apprehensions about the stability of Red Bull’s future. In an interview with De Telegraaf, he expressed his earlier fears, stating, “The team is in danger of falling apart. I was afraid of that earlier this year.
“For internal peace, it is important that key people stay on board. That is not the case now. Newey is leaving and earlier this year it also looked like Helmut would be sent away. For the future, that is not good.”
