Red Bull’s Response to Verstappen ‘Exit’ Rumors

Red Bull has emphasized that Max Verstappen’s decision to stay with the team will be based on performance rather than financial incentives. Verstappen is under contract with Red Bull until 2028, which covers two seasons under the upcoming regulatory changes.

The recent high-profile transfer of Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes to Ferrari has sparked speculation about Verstappen’s future in the sport.

Despite potential lucrative offers from more competitive rivals, Red Bull believes Verstappen’s loyalty will hinge on the team’s performance.

Marko said, “As in every Formula 1 contract, there are clauses if certain success quality criteria are not met.

“These are also included in Max’s contract.

“I don’t think an incomprehensible amount of money is an issue for Max.

“If we are not in a position to provide him with a car that is capable of winning…of course he’s interested in success as a racing driver.

“You don’t get any younger.

“And if he doesn’t see the light with Red Bull and these criteria come into play, then it’s quite clear that he’ll look around.

“But where would there be something better?”

The approach Mercedes will take to fill Hamilton’s seat in 2025 is still uncertain.

While Fernando Alonso is one of the prominent candidates, Mercedes might consider a younger prospect with promising potential.

The implementation of new regulations in 2026 could potentially shift the current competitive landscape and challenge Red Bull’s dominance.

Before Mercedes can finalize their decision, Red Bull also faces a pivotal moment in 2025. Sergio Perez’s contract will expire, presenting the team with a range of potential replacements to consider.

He added: “Perez still has a contract for 2024: it’s up to him.

“If he drives in a similar form to how he finished the last races [of 2023], then we can easily talk about a further extension.”

Daniel Ricciardo is considered a significant option. However, Marko has raised challenges regarding his suitability for the role.

“Ricciardo has to show that he has [Yuki] Tsunoda clearly under control,” Marko stated.

“Then he might be a candidate.

“But you asked for a date. I would say: after the summer break, you could already have certain considerations ready.”
