Mercedes has reinforced its team by securing the services of two pivotal engineers previously associated with Ferrari.
One of the notable signings is Simone Resta, the former Chief Designer at Ferrari. After a stint as the Technical Director at Haas and departing in January 2024, Resta is now poised to join Mercedes’ Brackley-based squad in the capacity of strategic development director.
In his new role, he will collaborate closely with James Allison, who took the helm of the technical department at Mercedes in 2023.
Joining Resta at Mercedes is Enrico Sampo, who will transition from his role as a driver simulator expert at Ferrari to assume the position of head of performance software applications.
Resta’s appointment as strategic development director underscores Mercedes’ commitment to advancing their car-related projects, with a direct reporting line to technical director James Allison.
Following the customary practice in such transitions, both Resta and Sampo will observe a period of gardening leave from Ferrari before commencing their roles at Mercedes. This transition is not expected to occur before 2025.
Meanwhile, D’Ambrosio, who had been increasingly visible in the Mercedes garage, often seen alongside Toto Wolff during sessions, is slated to make a move to Ferrari. Similarly, Performance Director Loic Serra will also be joining Ferrari.
