Max Verstappen appears poised to secure his fourth consecutive Formula 1 drivers’ championship this season with Red Bull, yet uncertainties surrounding his future persist. Jos Verstappen recently provided insights into the factors influencing his son’s future in F1.
The three-time champion Max remains under contract with Red Bull until the culmination of 2028, aligning with the next cycle of power unit and chassis regulations, spanning three years ahead.
Given their dominance in Formula 1, it is widely anticipated that the Dutch driver will clinch his fourth consecutive drivers’ title this year, positioning him as the front-runner for the 2025 championship as well.
However, amidst swirling rumors of internal power struggles within Red Bull, speculations regarding Max’s future continue to circulate.
Jos Verstappen, in response to these speculations, shed light on the situation while acknowledging the current success his son is experiencing with Red Bull.
“It’s going insanely well,” Jos remarked to RaceXpress during his participation at the Rally of Wallonia over the weekend.
“It’s unbelievable how strong he (Max Verstappen) is. Also during the race, you just notice that he has everything under control and keeps an eye on everything. During qualifying he’s there, it’s just beautiful to see him so busy,”
Jos Verstappen, who himself enjoyed a career in Formula 1 spanning from 1994 to 2003, remains unsurprising by the considerable interest surrounding his son, despite the longevity of his existing contract.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has initiated an extended effort to secure Verstappen‘s signature, potentially even before the expiration of his current agreement with Red Bull, recognizing him as a highly coveted driver in the sport.
Verstappen Sr. emphasizes that while Red Bull currently presents the optimal opportunity for Max in Formula 1, they must also consider the landscape beyond 2026.
“I think everyone wants him, only I think Max is right for the moment,” he remarked. “He has a fast car, but we also have to look further to 2026, so we are letting everything come to us at the moment. We stay very calm and see what will happen.”
Amidst ongoing speculation regarding the potential departure of renowned designer and current Red Bull chief technical officer Adrian Newey from the team, attention is drawn to the potential implications for the Verstappen camp.
However, Jos declined to comment on the matter, stating,”I’m not going to say anything about that…whatever should I say about it?
“I don’t know anything about it. There is a deal between him and Red Bull and the rest we’ll see. I can’t say anything about that. We all know how he has performed and how good he is.”
