Lewis Hamilton found himself embroiled in a tumultuous encounter during the sprint race in Miami. Yet, the seven-time world champion remains resolute about his approach in the upcoming Grand Prix.
Hamilton remains steadfast in his determination to seize opportunities during the Miami Grand Prix, despite being ensnared in a Turn 1 debacle in the sprint race. To gain positions early on, Hamilton maneuvered his car to the inside of Fernando Alonso as they approached the first corner at pace.
The collision also involved Lance Stroll and Lando Norris, both of whom were compelled to retire from the race due to the incident. However, the race stewards chose not to impose any further penalties, which hasn’t fazed Hamilton as he sets his sights on the Grand Prix.
In response to inquiries from the media, Hamilton expressed his lack of concern over the incident, stating, “I honestly haven’t thought about it, it felt good to me.”
When prompted about whether his actions echoed Ayrton Senna’s famed adage, ‘If you no longer go for a gap, you’re no longer a racing driver,’ Hamilton affirmed, “Exactly. I’m going for the gap [in the grand prix] also.”
As the Miami Grand Prix approaches, Hamilton finds himself slated to commence from the eighth position on the grid, alongside his teammate George Russell on the fourth row.
Despite his best result this season being a seventh-place finish, Hamilton remains optimistic about his chances of making headway during the race.
“I think we maximized the setup and the car was good, [it had] great balance,” he stated.
“I don’t know if we have the same pace as the guys ahead. We’ll wait and see but we’re a little bit closer and further up [from the sprint].
“Hopefully we can try and attack and see if we can get on top of some of these guys in front of us.”
