Lando Norris managed to evade a penalty despite his premature start at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix over the weekend. Shedding light on the incident, Norris shared insights into what led to his jump start.
Just moments before the race commenced, Norris found himself inching forward before promptly hitting the brakes upon realizing his premature movement. This split-second decision to correct his error caused a slight delay in his launch off the starting line.
Despite undergoing scrutiny from race stewards, Norris ultimately dodged a penalty for his infraction. His quick reflexes and adherence to race regulations likely played a pivotal role in avoiding any further consequences.
It was stated that “Article 48.1 a) of the Formula One Sporting Regulations states clearly that the judgment of whether or not there was a jump start is to be made in accordance with the transponder”.
In this instance, Norris’ transponder failed to register his jump start despite his forward movement within his grid box.
“I stopped in time,” Norris said. “I’ve never done this before in my life so I don’t know why I’ve done it. It was investigated and was cleared.”
