Hannah Waddingham’s Controversial Remark: Lewis Hamilton an ‘Eight-Time Champion’?”

Hannah Waddingham, renowned for her role in Ted Lasso seemingly made a controversial comment about Sir Lewis Hamilton during the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

In her interview with presenter David Coulthard on Channel 4’s coverage of the race, Waddingham referred to the British racing driver as an “eight-time champion,” despite Hamilton officially holding seven World Championship of Drivers titles.

The 2021 season witnessed a fiercely contested battle between Hamilton and his rival Max Verstappen, with Hamilton narrowly missing out on securing a record-breaking eighth championship title.

The pivotal moment came during the final lap of the last race, when race director Michael Masi’s decision to allow lapped drivers to unlap themselves behind the safety car ultimately propelled Verstappen to victory.

This incident sparked significant controversy, leading to Masi stepping down from his role. An inquiry by the FIA concluded that Masi’s decisions were made in good faith but attributed the incident to human error.

Waddingham’s comment adds another layer of intrigue to the unfolding narrative surrounding Hamilton’s championship pursuits, generating further discussion and speculation within the Formula 1 community.

“I’ve been binge-watching you! You’ve been making appearances everywhere,” David Coulthard remarked.

In response to Coulthard’s remark, the actor offered her thoughts, stating: “Have you? I know people must be sick of the sight of me, I do apologise.”

She added: “I’ve waited a long time to be here and am I allowed to say that I’m very much looking forward to seeing Lewis Hamilton, eight-time champion?”

Coulthard swiftly replied to the actor’s comment: “You can say whatever you want! I don’t think many people would disagree with that. He’s a legend of the sport.”

Continuing her admiration, Waddingham proceeded to express further acclaim for the F1 star, describing him as “absolutely extraordinary” and a true force to be reckoned with.

“I hope I get to meet him and give him a little curtsy,” she added.

  1. The only controversy remaining is how could the governing body acknowledge that the re-start was broken but also claim it could do NOTHING to mend or repair the results. That’s just fecklessness.

Until the illegal lap 58 is voided, the sport is not worth of all the attention, passion and money.!

    1. 2007 and 2008 was way and way worse. However for some obvious reason it does not get as much attention as 2021. I wonder how that could be?
