Gasly stays optimistic about the second half of the season.

French driver Pierre Gasly has revealed he is hopeful of a good turn in results in the second half of the 2022 campaign after a rollercoaster start.

After a solid performance in the 2021 campaign which saw AlphaTauri finish ahead of Alpine and Aston Martin in the constructor’s championship, the Faenza-based team has not been to emulate such performances halfway through the current season.

AlphaTauri is currently placed eighth in the constructors’ championship far adrift from Alpine and just seven points ahead of Aston Martin.

Reliability issues and lack of pace have been the major concerns which have plagued the Faenza-based team, in face of this, Pierre Gasly their lead driver is far from being demoralised by their performance so far.

The 26-year-old believes his team will be battling for points after the campaign resumes from the summer break. Gasly, when asked about his team’s package for the rest of the campaign (9 races remaining) explained: “Yeah, 100 per cent.”

“We knew at the start of the season that this year is a race of development; new regulations, new cars, people are just going to develop their car throughout the year.

“It doesn’t really matter how you start, what’s important is just to have [progress] through the year.

“I think we started in a decent place. I kind of got slowed down a bit with all the issues we had with porpoising, etc.

“But now it’s clearly bringing performance, and when you see how tight the midfield is, I think it’s clearly going to put us back in that fight.

“Now, two tenths in the midfield go from P8 to P16, so we just need to make sure we maximise the full potential of what we’ve got, for the rest of the year.”
