Carlos Sainz’s participation in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix has been halted due to an illness, necessitating a replacement at Ferrari.
Sainz will not be competing for the remainder of the weekend, with his seat being filled by reserve driver Oliver Bearman, who will be making his Formula 1 race debut.
The absence of the Spaniard was notable during the traditional pre-event media day in Jeddah on Wednesday, as he had to return to his hotel due to feeling unwell after a brief stint at the track.
Despite still experiencing symptoms, Sainz did return to the event on Thursday and participated in the first two practice sessions.
Taking over reserve driver duties at Ferrari and Haas this year, Bearman had previously made his FP1 debut with Haas in 2023.
