Ferrari is currently in the process of investigating the brake issues that impacted Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz during the Bahrain Grand Prix.
Leclerc encountered persistent locking up of his brakes during the initial stages of the season’s inaugural race, causing him to slip from his starting position of second on the grid. The discrepancy in temperature between the left and right brake discs was approximately 100 degrees Celsius.
Both Ferrari and their brake supplier, Brembo, are optimistic that this incident was an isolated occurrence.
Despite the challenges faced in Bahrain, Senior Performance Engineer Jock Clear remains assured that the team’s performance will not be compromised in the upcoming Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. However, further investigation is deemed necessary to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem.
“We are investigating, obviously we’ve only had a week between [races] and not even a week, only a couple of days in reality, and the factory is a long way away,” Clear stated.
“We’re starting to do it, we’ve done as much of an investigation as we can – and we’re pretty much on top of it, with the help of Brembo.
“We’ve come [to Saudi Arabia] and we don’t have any particular issues here, so I think we put that to bed.
“But to be honest, we’re not completely on top of the problem, we haven’t completely identified the problem.
“But we are confident that coming here, we’ve made some changes that will mean it won’t be a problem.”
