Ferrari Dismisses Support for Massa’s 2008 Championship Claim

Ferrari’s head has clearly stated that he does not back Felipe Massa’s pursuit to be recognized as the world champion of 2008.

Massa, who has since retired, was behind the wheel of a Ferrari in 2008 when Nelson Piquet of Renault intentionally crashed during the Singapore GP.

Bernie Ecclestone, the former F1 CEO, conceded recently that the motorsport’s governing bodies were aware of the willful act of cheating before Lewis Hamilton edged out Massa for the 2008 title.

Legal representatives for Massa have now cautioned the FIA and F1, stating that they are earnestly contemplating legal measures to strip Hamilton of his inaugural championship and award it to Massa, 42, along with financial compensation.

Back in 2008, Frederic Vasseur was at the helm of GP2 team ART – but he now commands the reins at Ferrari.

When questioned regarding Massa’s endeavour to secure a retrospective Ferrari-fueled world title, Vasseur responded, “I don’t really want to comment on this.

“But I have good relations with all the stakeholders. It’s quite difficult because we are talking about exceptional circumstances. But more generally, and not mentioning Felipe, I think we are actually trying to push the FIA to know the result of the event at the time of the chequered flag.

“I don’t know, and I don’t want to comment, but it would be strange. I’m not a big fan of the idea of changing the race result even 15 minutes after the chequered flag,” he added.
