F1, FIA Heads to Address Horner Inquiry Today

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is scheduled to hold discussions with FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem in Bahrain regarding the current situation involving Red Bull team principal Christian Horner.

According to reports from Sky Sports, top officials from both F1 and the FIA will convene today to address the issue following the purported leakage of investigative evidence to several accredited journalists, F1 team leaders, and senior figures via an anonymous email account on Thursday.

The authenticity of the email contents has yet to be confirmed.

Earlier, Horner had been exonerated of any impropriety prior to the Bahrain Grand Prix following an impartial inquiry into allegations of misconduct.

A comprehensive interview with the 50-year-old was conducted by an independent barrister, with the subsequent findings relayed to Red Bull’s management in Austria for deliberation.

With the clearance received, Horner was poised to continue leading the Red Bull F1 outfit into the 2024 season.

However, developments emerged after the second practice session in Bahrain on Thursday, revealing the alleged leak of incriminating evidence.

In response, Horner promptly issued a statement reiterating his denial of the accusations; “I won’t comment on anonymous speculation but to reiterate, I have always denied the allegations.

“I respected the integrity of the independent investigation and fully cooperated with it every step of the way. It was a thorough and fair investigation conducted by an independent specialist barrister and it has concluded dismissing the complaint made.

“I remain fully focused on the start of the season.”

Horner’s counterparts, Toto Wolff and Zak Brown, have both called for “transparency.”

Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes, was particularly outspoken about the statement released by Red Bull, labeling it as “basic, vague and opaque”
