Valtteri Bottas, born on August 28, 1989, in Nastola, Finland, has had a notable career in Formula 1. His father owned a small cleaning company, and his mother was an undertaker. He was educated in Heinola and briefly served in the Finnish army, attaining the rank of lance corporal.
Bottas's racing career started in karting, where he showed early promise. He moved on to single-seater championships, winning the Formula Renault Eurocup and Formula Renault Northern European Cup in 2008. His talent in racing was further recognized when he won the Masters of Formula 3 event in 2009 and repeated the feat in 2010.
He joined the Williams Formula One team as a test driver in 2010 and was promoted to a full-time driver in 2013, partnering with Pastor Maldonado. During his time at Williams, he achieved a number of podiums, including his maiden podium in Austria in 2014, and finished fourth in the drivers' championship that year.
