Next week, teams are set to converge on the Bahrain International Circuit for a three-day stint of pre-season activities, ahead of the world championship’s opening race there the subsequent weekend.
In recent times, Bahrain has emerged as the favored spot for pre-season testing due to a few key factors. One major advantage is its consistent weather, offering conditions more in line with the majority of the season.
In contrast, Barcelona, the former testing location, often presented teams with colder, winter-like conditions, limiting the usefulness of tire data and sometimes causing disruptions due to rain or even snow delays.
Additionally, the cost aspect plays a role. By choosing Bahrain, teams can offset a significant portion of the logistical expenses since the equipment can be kept on-site for the commencement of the opening round.
The forthcoming week will see each team’s drivers share a total of three days of track time, with the allocation of this time being at their discretion. Without the constraints of an FIA-regulated event, teams have the freedom to tailor their testing programs.
Most teams will have already conducted a shakedown run of their cars before heading to Bahrain, utilizing promotional filming opportunities—a practice exploited by teams such as Red Bull Racing, Aston Martin, and Ferrari.

Coverage is set to begin at 17:30 AEDT (09:30 local time) on Wednesday, February 21, with the day’s second session starting after a one-hour break at 23:00 AEDT (15:00 local time).
