Dr Helmut Marko has made it clear he won’t touch upon Sergio Perez’s cultural lineage while in Singapore this weekend.
Post-Monza, the influential Red Bull team advisor ignited a controversy by mistakenly classifying the Mexican Perez as “South American” and suggesting it influenced his concentration relative to Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel.
After facing considerable criticism, especially from the heads of the Mexican GP, the seasoned Austrian quickly apologised and has chosen to move past the incident.
“If there are any questions, I won’t answer them,” he told f1-insider.com regarding the upcoming Singapore GP.
“I will only talk about sporting matters.”
Sportingly, things are looking up for Red Bull. They have triumphed in every grand prix to date this season, which includes Max Verstappen’s impressive 10-race victory sequence and counting.
However, Marko conveys his reservations concerning Singapore.
“A lot can always happen there,” he said. “Max has never won in Singapore either.”
Additionally, this year sees significant adjustments to the barrier-laden street circuit.
“Corners 16 to 19 have been eliminated,” Marko confirms. “This makes the course faster and adds an element of unpredictability for us.
“But what worries me most is Ferrari. They were already very strong in Monza. So if we get through Singapore on a positive note, I can sleep a little more soundly.”
