Lewis Hamilton candidly acknowledged that he finds himself at a loss when it comes to rectifying Mercedes’ lack of pace following a challenging Friday at the British Grand Prix.
The seven-time champion elaborated on the team’s predicament, revealing that the Mercedes mechanics were left perplexed in their efforts to configure the car optimally for qualifying after a demanding afternoon session.
During the final practice session, Hamilton faced a setback as he secured the 15th position, with his lap times lagging behind Max Verstappen’s quickest lap by over 1.2 seconds.
Similarly, his teammate George Russell struggled to find pace, finishing in 12th place, highlighting the challenges faced by the Mercedes team.
When questioned about potential solutions to bring the car into an optimal state for the upcoming race, Hamilton made a revealing admission. The 38-year-old driver disclosed that he and Russell had engaged in discussions following the session.
However, both drivers found themselves grappling with uncertainty, uncertain about the appropriate course of action to pursue in order to address their concerns.
“No, No. Me and George were just talking. He’s one way, he’s over here with the set-up and I’m over here. He was like ’I’m thinking of coming to where you are but your lap times slow’,” said Hamilton.
“I was like ‘well I’m thinking of coming to where you are but the balance’. We will try and work on it tonight and Mick [Schumacher] will do some work in the sim tonight so hopefully we will come up with something tomorrow.”
