Carlos Sainz is actively seeking a new team in Formula 1, with Audi emerging as a potential destination as they prepare to debut on the grid in 2026. Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has disclosed that Sainz has received a lucrative three-year proposal from Audi, beginning in 2025.
Audi’s entry into Formula 1 is set for 2026, marking a significant addition to the grid as they take over the Sauber-operated entity currently known as Stake. The German automaker has wasted no time in bolstering its lineup, recently announcing the signing of Nico Hulkenberg from Haas.
Sainz finds himself in need of a new team after Ferrari opted to replace him with Lewis Hamilton for the upcoming season. Marko emphasized Sainz’s current form, highlighting his attractiveness as a potential addition to Audi’s roster.
“Sainz is in great form at the moment,” remarked Marko to OE24, underscoring the Spanish driver’s appeal in the current market.
“I think he has a very good offer from Audi for three years, but he has to make a decision relatively soon. We, on the other hand, won’t be making a decision soon, we don’t let such things put us under pressure. But of course, we are sorting.”
Red Bull is currently evaluating its options for the 2025 season, as Sergio Perez’s contract is set to expire at the end of the year.
Previously, Marko acknowledged that discussions have taken place with Carlos Sainz regarding a potential return to Red Bull. However, he conceded that Red Bull cannot match the offer extended to Sainz by Audi.
Sainz began his Formula 1 career under the Red Bull umbrella, competing for its junior team Toro Rosso.
When reminded of Sainz’s previous association with Red Bull, Marko noted, “Well, he was still very young back then. But in the meantime, he has developed really well and is showing incredible form.”
