Amidst the recent tensions within Red Bull Racing, there have been speculations regarding the future of Adrian Newey, the renowned car designer.
Adrian Newey, serving as the chief technical officer at Red Bull, has expressed that he is keeping his options open regarding his future within the team and Formula 1. Newey holds a prestigious status in the F1 community, having been an integral part of Red Bull’s setup for close to two decades.
Before joining Red Bull in 2006, he had illustrious tenures at Williams and McLaren, clinching championships with iconic drivers like Alain Prost and Mika Hakkinen.
Newey’s contributions have led to an impressive tally of twelve World Constructors’ Championships and thirteen World Drivers’ Championships since 1992. Additionally, he enjoyed success in the CART Championship in the United States.
Despite Red Bull’s recent successes, including the dominance exhibited by the RB19 challenger in the 2022 season, internal tensions have fueled rumors suggesting Newey’s potential departure from the team.
One speculated destination for the 65-year-old designer was Ferrari, where he could collaborate with seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. However, Newey indicated that while he remains interested in continuing his involvement in Formula 1, he has not yet extensively contemplated his immediate future.
“I enjoy [it],” Newey remarked. “Ever since I was 10 or so, certainly by 12, I wanted to be a designer – I don’t think I knew the word ‘engineer’ – in motor racing, and ideally, Formula 1.
“That’s what I [put] all my teenage years towards. I managed to get that first job in motor racing when I graduated. I’ve hugely enjoyed it, and I continue to enjoy it.
“So I think as long as I continue to enjoy it and the team wants me then I’ll continue to do it for the moment and then we’ll have to see in the future. I don’t tend to plan too far forward.”
