Vettel Hits Track in Le Mans Porsche 963

The former Formula 1 driver familiarized himself with the Porsche 963 during a test session in preparation for an upcoming event.

Sebastian Vettel, renowned for his four-time Formula 1 World Championship titles, recently underwent his inaugural test with Porsche Penske Motorsport’s Porsche 963.

Following his retirement from Grand Prix racing at the close of the 2022 season, Vettel engaged in discussions with the Jota Porsche team around mid-2023 regarding a potential comeback to racing in 2024 within the novel LMDh Hypercar category.

Prior to his outing at Aragon in Spain scheduled for the following week, the German driver diligently acquainted himself with the vehicle through extensive simulator sessions.

However, it was only on March 21st that Vettel had his maiden on-track experience with the Porsche 963, conducting the test at the Porsche Research and Development center located in Weissach.

The test session at Weissach followed a rigorous week characterized by meetings and simulator sessions.

Subsequently, Vettel is set to partake in a 36-hour test session in Spain alongside fellow drivers Matt Campbell, Michael Christensen, Frédéric Makowiecki, Kévin Estre, André Lotterer, and Laurens Vanthoor. This session aims to prepare the team for the challenges of Le Mans.

“I’m looking forward to testing the Porsche 963. I already got the chance to get a feel for the car during a rollout in Weissach. I’ve always followed other racing series and my curiosity for endurance events encouraged me to just give it a shot,” Vettel stated.

“Now I’m excited about the long run in Aragon and I’m looking forward to my time behind the wheel. It’ll definitely take an adjustment and some getting used to but everyone in the team is very open and helps me.

“This will be a new experience for me. We will then see what happens next in this respect – at the moment there are no further plans for the future.”
